The Pentasa® Suppository should be inserted through the anus. To prevent the suppository from leaving the body prematurely through the stool after administration, it is recommended to have a stool before using the suppository. For patients with a very sensitive anus, it is recommended to smooth the suppository with a little water before insertion.
After insertion, the suppositories are intended to remain in the intestine for as long as possible. It is, therefore, generally recommended to take the suppositories in the evening immediately before going to sleep.
We have an instruction video and brochure available to properly use the Pentasa® Suppository. See the ‘Downloads’ tab for all available materials.
In deze instructievideo wordt het juiste gebruik van Pentasa® Zetpil uitgelegd.
The dosage of the Pentasa® Suppository should be adjusted to the severity of the disease.
Generally, one suppository is recommended 1-2 times a day for adults and older children.
For daily dosing, taking the suppository in the evening is recommended before going to sleep. With a twice-daily dose, it is wise to insert the second suppository early in the morning, for example, or else in the morning after going to the toilet.
There is little experience and only limited documentation on an effect in children1.
